Portugal’s Quinta do Noval declares two vintages in a row

Talk about lightning striking twice—Portugal’s Quinta do Noval has declared two vintages in a row. Again. They should know what they’re doing, having produced great port in the Douro Valley since 1715.

Douro - Das Tal der Visionäre

In der neuen Ausgabe von FINE Das Weinmagazin findet sich eine große Reportage von Stefan Quante über das Dourotal und 3 der größten Portweinproduzenten, Symington Family Estates, Taylor, Fladgate & Yeatman und Dirk Niepoort. Außerdem ein Bericht mit Verkostungsnotizen über eine große Port-Verkostung, die im Mai diesen Jahres in Berlin stattfand - Vintage-Ports von 1857 bis 2007.

Ein überaus lesenswerter Artikel, vor allem in Zeiten, wo die (letzten) Wein-Printmedien kaum noch über Portwein berichten.

Wer sich die 15 € für die Printausgabe sparen will, kann diesen Artikel auch hier online lesen. Viel Vergnügen.

Quinta do Noval 2008 Vintage Port

Meantime, you’ll have picked up from my reports about Symington Family Estates and Fladgate that both preferred to declare the 2007 vintage over the 2008 vintage (see my reports here and here).  It’s not for the first time that Quinta do Noval (pictured) has been out of step with tradition and declared back-to-back vintages (for example, it did so in 1966 and 1967 and recently the 2003 and 2004).  As Noval’s Managing Director Christian Seely points out “if a wine is of the quality to be declared as a Quinta do Noval Vintage then we should do it… there was a small quantity of wines from the very best terroirs of the Quinta that we found simply irresistible.” And when he’s says small, that means less than 1,000 cases,  partly due to poor flowering as you’ll see from Noval’s vintage report below.

Vintage Port 2008 verkostet von Richard Mayson

Bereits am 18.Mai veröffentlichte Richard Mayson seine ersten Verkostungsnotizen der neuen Vintage Ports 2008.

Hier die Liste:

Fonseca Guimaraens Vintage Port 2008 - 17 P.

Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port 2008 - 17 P.

Weiterhin lesenswert ist sein Bericht über eine Blindverkostung von Vintage Ports aus den Jahren 1863 bis 1996. Ihn überzeugte vor allem der Fonseca Guimaraens von 1976 mit 18,5 Punkten.

Oscar Quevedo Blog für 'Wineblogawards' nominiert

In dieser Woche finden die öffentlichen Abstimmungen für die "Wineblogawards 2010" statt, heute ist der letzte Tag, an dem noch abgestimmt werden kann.

Als einziges Blog, das sich mit Portwein und Douroweinen beschäftigt, ist das Blog von Oscar Quevedo nominiert (es dürfen nur englischsprachige Blogs gewählt werden).

Bitte stimmt für ihn, damit sein sehr lesenswertes und interessantes Blog auch die internationale Anerkennung bekommt. Zur Abstimmung geht es  hier.

 Oscars Quevedos Weine werden auch in Deutschland vertrieben und Oscar selbst ist regelmäßig in Deutschland, um diese auf großen Veranstaltungen, wie die 'Vintage 2007-Verkostung' in Leverkusen und der Prowein vorzustellen.

Ich habe schon für ihn gestimmt und in den anderen Kategorien für Ryan Opaz und sein "Catavino"-Blog.
